It's October at Los Angeles farmers markets, which means crates of Kabocha and other squash and pumpkins — Halloween being almost here — and an increasing number of apples, including some pretty stunning heirloom varieties. Look for persimmons, some tomatoes, celeriac, pears, pomegranates and even, if you're lucky, the exotic finger limes that Shanley Farms brings down from Morro Bay. (They'll have them at the Santa Monica Wednesday market until January.) Check out our virtual grocery list. And yes, it tastes as good as it looks.
