If you’re eagerly awaiting your next haircut appointment, you might want to head to Orange County.

Orange County has been granted state approval as of May 26 to allow hair salons and barbershops to reopen for business, ending more than two months of state-mandated closures, as reported by Irvine Weekly. 

Your next barbershop or salon experience, however, may look much different than you remember.

Now, for first time since March, these “non-essential” businesses will begin to move forward with specialized CDC guidelines that underline social distancing and hand washing. Shop owners must also provide and encourage the use of personal protective equipment and barbershops and hair salons must remove any magazines, books and other points of contact from waiting areas.

Shops are also asked to stagger appointments to reduce reception congestion and suspend walk-in appointment availability, per the guidelines found on the state’s website.

The county is now “Further into Stage 2,” according to the state website. As of May 26, Orange County has reported 5,601 COVID-19 cases and 131 deaths.

Los Angeles County continues to work out its plan for reopening higher-risk businesses such as hair salons. 

The county announced Tuesday night the reopening of churches and retail stores, while personal care services remain shuttered.
