Guisados, the Boyle Heights taqueria that has captured the love of anyone who has sunk their teeth into one of those tacos, announced back in October that it would be expanding to Echo Park and Downtown. As of yesterday, the Echo Park location is open to the public.

It's a small space on a fairly uninhabited stretch of Sunset, just north of downtown. There are two rooms, one the busy kitchen, the other a sparse but colorful dining room. There's also a patio out back with extra seating. Parking is limited, but there's plenty of street parking on Sunset.

The menu offers 13 kinds of tacos, one quesadilla, and the taco sampler, which continues to be in the running for best meal under $7 in the city. The stewy, spicy conchinita pibil we tried was every bit as good as the original, served on those chewy, corn-rich tortillas.

We'll have to wait a bit longer for the downtown Guisados, located at 541 S. Spring St. Owners say they're hoping to be open there by November.
