The full name may be the New Original Works Festival, but after five years of innovative, multidisciplinary, sometimes confrontational and, per the name, definitely original works, everyone knows this three-week summer event as the NOW Festival. Once again, the lineup boasts creative talents who believe boundaries are for blurring. Among the artists who will inject major amounts of dance into the series’ opening week, look for Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project, blending West African and Western dance with live percussion and vocals in Sira Kan/On the Road; and Theatre Movement Bazaar (Tina Kronis and Richard Alger) in Model Behavior. Next week, original scores back both Holly Johnson’s explosive Ledges and Bones Dance Project in Politics of Intimacy and Lionel Popkin in Your Hand/My Mouth, which he performs with Noellie Bordelet. The last week spotlights recent Horton Award–winner Rosanna Gamson and her troupe World Wide in the premiere of Tov, weaving the histories of Polish Jews with that of the tarpan horse, a “re-created” breed.
