Imagine landing a job working for your show-business hero. That was the case for UCLA student Steve Stoliar, who initiated a campus campaign to re-release Animal Crackers, not knowing that his efforts ultimately would lead to a meeting with Groucho Marx and a dream job: working as the actor's personal secretary and archivist. From 1974 until the star's passing in 1977, Stoliar worked side by side with Marx at his Beverly Hills home, where he met luminaries such as Bob Hope, Mae West, George Burns and Marx brothers Zeppo and Gummo. He also had a front-row seat to watch Hollywood history unfold. Join the author of Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho's House as he retraces that history, shares the bon mots heard over the years from the brothers Marx and their compatriots, and — perhaps most fascinating — gives the inside scoop on the nefarious endeavors of Groucho “companion” Erin Fleming. Not to be missed are never-seen-before home movies, including one with Marx singing in his living room. Hollywood Heritage Museum in the Lasky-DeMille Barn, 2100 N.
