La Brea Bakery, a bakery turned regional chain and bread distributor founded by Nancy Silverton, is looking for a tale that captures how grilled cheese sandwiches evoke a sense of home with The Grilled Cheese Reunion, an online contest running from now until the end of this month.

To enter, you must share background on your hometown's past and present, as well as your childhood experiences eating grilled cheese sandwiches. Because, really: What says “happy childhood” like grilled cheese?

The contest organizers are also asking for a photo of either yourself, a grilled cheese sandwich, or some element that represents a memory of your home.

The winner will receive a round-trip to his or her hometown, including coach class airfare, two-nights lodging, and transportation in the form of a three-day car rental. He/she will receive a $200 gift card, a digital camera and a grilled cheese sandwich kit. Ten runner-ups will win a sandwich kit that includes a Breville sandwich maker and grocery coupons.

The last day to submit is April 30 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. But you might as well get writing: We're told tomorrow is National Grilled Cheese Day. Silly, yes, but the perfect time to plumb your childhood memories of cheesy, bread-y, buttery goodness.
