In honor of their 70th birthday, all NORMS locations will be  hosting a Customer Appreciation Day on Wednesday, October 23 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., by  offering  a 70-cent breakfast which comes with two hotcakes, two strips of bacon or sausage and two eggs.

In 1949, Los Angeles native Norm Roybark opened one of the first 24/7 restaurants in Southern California in a small diner located near the Hollywood corner of Sunset Blvd. and Vine St.  The NORMS on La Cienega opened in 1957 during the height of the popular Googie architecture craze that swept the nation in the mid-20th century. Eldon Davis, of Armet Davis Newlove Architects in Santa Monica, designed the location to feature upswept roofs, geometric shapes, and bold use of glass, neon, and steel. While some of the shops have been demolished, there are still 19 locations across L.A., Orange and Riverside counties. The La Cienega location remains the longest operating restaurant in the chain.

Since that little diner opened, NORMS says they’ve flipped over 340 million hotcakes (enough to cover 5,000 football fields), cracked more than one billion eggs (enough to fill 397,000 pick-up trucks,) served more than 26 million hand-cut T-Bone steaks, fried more than  30 million pounds of French fries and sizzled over 100 million strips of bacon. They’ve poured more than 326 million cups of fresh-brewed coffee (enough to fill 30 Olympic swimming pools) to wash it all down.
