A few months ago we wrote about LA rapper Nocando, whose work during Project Blowed and, recently, the Low End Theory have garnered him much praise on the experimental beatz scene around town (and in London). We just found this battle clip in which the emcee takes on Miami rapper Wrekonize, and we figured we'd share it with you.

Before you watch it, though, know this: It's NSFW, first of all. F-bombs galore. Second, Wrekonize, despite a single-line disclaimer somewhere in one of his rants suggesting otherwise, is one homophobic rhyme-fiend. His first battle is filled with lots of pole-sucking “jokes,” and he seems to rely on such “put-downs” at the expense of any other sort of insults. Yes, homophobia and rap mostly go hand in hand, especially in battle scenarios. But these days, such rhyming is a sign more than anything of laziness and lack of imagination. To his credit, Nocando stays away from such nonsense (for the most part, at least), insulting his nemesis mostly for being a has-been with funny hair and a misspelled name. Anyway, listen to it at your peril, and know that West Coast Sound is most certainly holding its nose while we share with you this battle tape.

Background on the fighters after the jump:

Here's what Jeff Weiss had to say about Nocando in his LA Weekly feature:

With an avant-garde aesthetic halfway between dubstep and Dilla, the club's sonics are apt to leave lesser rappers exposed. Every Wednesday night a different DJ/producer from Los Angeles or London or Glasgow or Germany shows up at the Airliner with synth lines jagged as uncut crystal quartz, desultory but dynamic drum patterns, and bass that shakes like a subduction zone. The beats have no natural pockets but Nocando finds one anyway, weaving his booming baritone like a jazz virtuoso toying with space and time.

Wiki has this background on Wrekonize, btw:

Wrekonize is a U.S. battle rapper who beat 10 rappers to win MTV Battle II: The Takeover in Times Square and a contract with Roc-A-Fella Records. However, several months later, reports surfaced that Wrekonize was never offered a contract as the contest initially stipulated.

Soon after he was signed to SouthBeat Records and has released “The Waiting Room Mixtape” which features songs with Ras Kass and DJ Spinna. The Waiting Room is the first mixtape to a three part mixtape series that he is putting out on Southbeat Records. The second part of the series, Elevator Music, features the Miami emcee rapping over underground instrumentals. It features one track produced by Plex Luthor of Mayday and another produced by DJ Sharpsound.
