21-Year-Old Driver Dead after Single-Vehicle Collision near Garnet Avenue

PALM SPRINGS, CA (September 26, 2022) – Early Tuesday morning, Nicolas Mattson lost his life in a solo-car crash on Interstate 10.

The accident occurred around 2:20 a.m., near Garnet Avenue on September 5th.

Investigators say Mattson lost control of his blue Chevrolet Tahoe for unknown reasons. As a result, he veered into the center divider and attempted to correct his path by swerving to the right.

The Chevy then traveled through a barbed wire fence before coming to rest on Garnet Avenue. Amidst the chaos, Mattson’s seat belt became cut and he was consequently ejected from the vehicle.

Medics arrived and pronounced 21-year-old Mattson dead at the scene.

Following preliminary duties, officials ruled out alcohol or drugs as potential factors in the fatal accident. At this time, Bloomfield police continue to investigate. Once available, further details will be provided.
