If you wonder why the median price of a home here ($530,000, according to real estate data firm CoreLogic), is so damn high, look no further than the high end of L.A.'s housing market.
Real estate site Point2 Homes parsed its listings to come up with a ranking of America's highest-priced homes. A top-21 ranking was provided to L.A. Weekly. Point2 Homes also published a top 10 here.
In either case, Los Angeles represents. There are three local listings in the national top 10 and seven in the top 21. And that's not counting showings on the lists by Santa Barbara, Orange County and San Diego.
A $150 million asking price for 301 N. Carolwood Drive in Holmby Hills filled the second slot on the site's ranking of the "Top 10 Most Expensive Homes in the U.S." The property is said to have once belonged to Barbra Streisand. It's a 38,000-square-foot home with 10 bedrooms, 20 bathrooms and an indoor waterfall. Yeah — we said indoor waterfall.

The so-called Palazzo di Amore at 9505 Lania Lane just outside Beverly Hills is listed for $149 million, which put it in third place on the lists. It has "a state-of-the-art theater," a "discotheque" and a "wine-producing vineyard," Point2 Home states.
Too rich for you? Maybe fifth-place 1187 N. Hillcrest Road in Beverly Hills is more your style. Its asking price is only $135 million. The deal includes 2.5 acres of property and 18,000 square feet of living space.
The expanded list of 21 listings includes one more property in Beverly Hills and three others in nearby parts of Los Angeles that comprise the Golden Triangle of gilded real estate.
But if you want the most expensive home for sale in the United States, according to the website, then 2000 S. Ocean Blvd. in Manalapan, Florida, is it. The $195 million home is on 15.65 acres of barrier island outside Palm Beach. You get 33 bedrooms, 47 bathrooms, a golf practice area and, basically, your own beach.
