The new-this-year Anime Pasadena is for the fans, especially the fans who like to cosplay. Less like the sprawling conventions such as Wondercon and Anime Expo, Anime Pasadena is more like a really good group hang with a vendor floor attached. With a super-curated handful of headliners, Anime Pasadena this year was really about the fans dancing, singing karaoke and having their photos taken by other fans.
Nerdbot, organizer of Nerdbot-Con and Nerd Knights, put on the first Anime Pasadena on May 26 at the Pasadena Convention Center. Its stated goal is to be “your alternative to huge, faceless and expensive conventions with long lines that steal your soul and your wallet!” Looks like it succeeded this year.
