New Year with LA Guns: Sunset Strip rockers LA Guns will be performing on New Year’s Eve at the iconic Whisky A Go Go. Also on the bill are the Taz Taylor Band, Cardboard Ringo, White Rabbit, and Gordo.

The band’s history is storied and involves a little bit of family crossover with Guns N’ Roses. They’ve split and reformed more than once over the years, various members falling out with various other members. And now they have the indignity of two versions of the band in existence (the other being Riley’s LA Guns, led by drummer Steve Riley).

2021 saw the proper LA Guns release the appropriately titled Checkered Past, the third since founding guitarist Tracii Guns rejoined classic-era vocalist Phil Lewis in the band. Back in 2017, Lewis told this writer that: “It’s going really good. Tracii and I are getting along really well now. We’re both really focused on the same goals. We’re working on new songs. The new record sounds good, and the old songs sound great live. We’re mixing it up a lot now. The Whisky a Go-Go offered us Friday and Saturday in March, and then Vamp’d in Vegas has offered us the same deal. We like that, because we have enough songs. We’ve got enough albums and enough material. We do deep cuts in every set, but we really have enough songs to pull off a two-night residency playing a different set both nights, and I’m looking forward to that.”

“It sounds amazing — I’m not exaggerating,” he added. “It’s so slick, and every song is so well-crafted. Big choruses. It’s really interesting, and I think people are going to be knocked out by it. We’re gonna release it on CD and digital, of course, but we’re gonna put it put on vinyl. We have enough to put it out on double vinyl gatefold.”

The event takes place at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 31 at the Whisky A Go Go.
