Michele StuevenBorn out of a TikTok sensation that took off during a pandemic, ĐI ĐI is a new and innovative Vietnamese restaurant that chef and social media personality Tue Nguyen will open in West Hollywood in June in partnership with The h.wood Group, when the 20-something transitions from cooking online to cooking for customers.
Nguyen rose to TikTok fame in 2020 when she began cooking traditional Vietnamese dishes to educate her audience on the food, culture and people of her childhood. She has teamed up with The h.wood Group as co-owner and chef partner for the restaurant whose name translates to “Let’s Gooooo!”
Located in the former Petite Taqueria space on La Cienega Blvd. which closed last year, it will be a homecoming for Nguyen. It was the site of her sold-out pop-up activation series. Lined with palm trees, Đi Đi will be a 90-seat homage to traditional Vietnamese romance and architecture. In addition to the menu, Đi Đi will also offer a robust cocktail program to complement each dish.
Chef Tue Nguyen is a shooting star in the digital food space. Since graduating from culinary school, she’s had a string of sold-out pop-ups with The h.wood Group, Family Style Festival, ComplexCon, and a recent collaboration with chef Roy Choi in L.A. She’s the current host of Making It Big on Buzzfeed as well as the host of People Magazine’s digital food show, Celeb Eats. Her love of cooking was inspired by Anthony Bourdain and one of his series’ episodes highlighting Vietnam.
“My food has always been a story about my experience as an immigrant,” Nguyen said in a press release. “This restaurant captures the essence of both the cuisine and the vibrant culture. Vietnam is constantly evolving and it’s time to bring modern-day Vietnam to Hollywood.”
