As of Monday, the cost renewing your U.S. passport will be $20 more, according to the Dept. Of State Bureau of Consular Affairs.

“The increased fee is necessary to ensure we continue to produce one of the most secure travel and identity documents in the world,” the Dept. of State said on Twitter.

The price increase means a new passport book that previously cost $145 between the $110 application fee and a $35 acceptance fee, will now be $165.

Passport renewals, which were previously was $110, will now be $130.

Children’s passport costs will see the increase as well, with kids younger than 16 paying $135 instead of the former $115.

First time passport cards that may be used for travel to Mexico, Canada, Bermuda and the Caribbean will cost $65, with renewals costing $30.

As of October 29, the routine processing times have been eight to 11 weeks, with the option of an expedited process that shortens the time to five to seven weeks. That does not include the mailing time, which varies by state, nor the two week period it may take for the application to begin processing. The expedited fee is $60, with a 1-2 day delivery option available for an additional $17.56.

A fee calculator is available on the Dept. of State website, where one may enter their specific information to get a clearer picture of the overall cost.
