New Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck took less than a week as the city's top cop to rearrange his command staff. While you might rightfully have a sharp eye on what he plans to do with his fellow challengers for chief, Deputy Chief Michel Moore and Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell, it looks like Beck is keeping them at the top, at least on paper.

McDonnell, who spent the last few years as former Chief William Bratton's right-hand man, was assigned to become Chief of Detectives, an influential job that was Beck's former gig at the department before he became chief.

Michel Moore, widely regarded as a sharp, forward-thinking leader who has a grasp of how technology can help law enforcement, was taken from the helm of LAPD's Valley Bureau and promoted to assistant chief. He will now direct the Office of Special Services.(Interestingly, some residents at a town hall meeting in Van Nuys earlier this month asked Beck not to remove Moore from the Valley should he become chief).

Beck took Commander Rick Jacobs as his chief of staff, put Deputy Chief Kirk Albanese in Moore's old job, promoted Commander Pat Gannon to South Bureau deputy chief and promoted Commander Debbie McCarthy to West Bureau deputy chief. Sergio Diaz will remain as the Central Bureau deputy chief.

The changes should take effect Jan. 3.
