Fatal DUI Crash on 101 Freeway Kills Teenage Girl and Injures Another in Ventura

VENTURA, CA (June 25, 2021) – Authorities arrested 22-year-old Nelson Rivas after killing a teenage girl in a DUI Crash on Saturday.

The incident happened around 4:20 a.m., on the 101 Freeway near Victoria Avenue. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.

According to investigators, a southbound 2005 Nissan Sentra veered off the road and overturned down a nearby embankment. As a result, two teenage passengers, who were not wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the vehicle.

Eventually, the responders arrived and pronounced the 16-year-old girl dead at the scene. Meanwhile, they transported the 17-year-old passenger to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.

At this time, the Ventura County police continue to withhold the identities of the victims.

However, authorities arrested 22-year-old Nelson Rivas, of Oxnard for suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. He is currently being held on $55,000 bail.
