Look for a culinary showdown to happen this Sunday on Melrose Avenue. Representing the south, Suzanne Goin will serve up barbeque at the 9th annual Lucques' all-American rib fest, while across the street at comme Ça, David Myers will celebrate the culinary legacy of Julia Child as he prepares four of the chef's dishes at his restaurant's monthly 'block party.'

Comme Ça's block party will stoke the fires of Julia Child hysteria, with David Myers' interpretations of Child's classic French recipes (each $7): roasted asparagus with hollandaise sauce; garlic sausage en croute with a fried egg on brioche; vitello tonnato with sweetbreads; and potato-Gruyere croquettes. Not to be missed (literally) will be a 200-pound block of ice at which bartenders will chisel away to create three special cocktails.

On the south side of the street, Lucques will offer Sunday Supper regulars heaping platefuls of Saint Louis style-pork ribs, braised beef back ribs, spicy lamb spare ribs and too-hot-to-handle chicken wings. At $45 per person, diners can devour the messy ribs with coleslaw, long-cooked collard greens, buttered corn-on-the-cob, watermelon and lime salad and grilled cornbread. The culinary finale promises to include a warm peach and blackberry crisp with vanilla ice cream.

With choices like Craftsman Beer on tap or muscular bartenders chipping away at ice, it will be a long, hard day of eating and drinking on Melrose. But with all the good eats to choose from we can't think of a better way to duke it out.
