Given recent allegations that a Ponzi scheme artist spent eight years secretly giving money to University of Miami players, it's fair to say improper player benefits is a big deal. But — in Allen Iverson “Practice?!” voice — cream cheese? Cream cheese?!

Yahoo! Sports reports that the NCAA is proposing to finally allow schools to serve their athletes butter, jam and even cream cheese with the bagels already provided. Proposal No. 2011-78 is one of 91 potential rule changes that will be reviewed next January before approval.

As it stands now, only bagels, fruits and nuts are allowed to be served. In one of those “It depends on what the definition of the word is is” moments of American litigiousness, serving absolutely anything outside of these three foods would be a minor violation suspect to possible punishment by the NCAA. We get that it'd be illegal for students at USC to be served beef wellington stuffed with Nike endorsement contracts. But cream cheese? Cream cheese?!

Looks like we'll have to wait for the NCAA's decision in January.
