33-Year-Old Perris Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision near Temecula Parkway

TEMECULA, CA (September 18, 2024) –  Nancy Arzate died Saturday night, and Mason Michael Joachim was arrested after a DUI crash on northbound Interstate 15.

The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m.,  just north of Temecula Parkway.

According to authorities, a 2011 Toyota Camry lost control and hit a roadside object, coming to a stop on the right shoulder.

After exiting her vehicle, the driver of the Camry was struck by a 2003 Ford Edge traveling at approximately 70 mph.

Despite the efforts of paramedics from the Riverside County Fire Department, the driver of the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later identified as 33-year-old Nancy Arzate from Perris, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau.

The driver of the Ford Edge, 26-year-old Mason Michael Joachim of Carlsbad, fled the scene on foot but was later detained by authorities.

Joachim was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center with minor injuries and subsequently booked into Riverside County Jail on charges of felony DUI, hit-and-run, and other related offenses. He is currently being held on $1 million bail.
