Updated at the bottom: The suspect and victims have been identified. The suspect's booking photo has been added. First posted at 6 a.m.

A nude man fatally stabbed a mother and her daughter and injured a man in a home in unincorporated Torrance last night, according to authorities and reports.

Authorities responded to the residence about 8:17 p.m. last night, according to Capt. Mike Parker.

But the suspect, nude, engaged in a standoff until he was arrested around 10 p.m., according to CBS Los Angeles.

Parker said the victims were fatally stabbed. The male victim was said to be in “stable condition.”

It all happened at a residence in the 21800 block of South Vermont St., Parker said. The location appears to be right next to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

While some reports indicated this was near Carson or in the city of Torrance, Parker called it unincorporated Torrance — meaning that it's county territory that shares the same name as the city.

Sheriff's deputies found the bodies and the surviving victim after the arrest, according to what a deputy told City News Service.

[Update at 11:05 a.m. Monday]: Authorities today ID'd the suspect as 3031-year-old Virgil Tyrone Tate, according to City News Service. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.

Sheriff's homicide Lt. Holly Francisco described these events to CNS:

The wounded man came running out as deputies arrived and gave them information about where the suspect was,'' Francisco said. The man did not know whether the women were dead, so deputies immediately entered the residence.

The first deputies found one female victim dead with several stab wounds and the suspect locked in a back bedroom.

The older woman was said to be 58; the younger victim was said to be 32; the survivor is 36.

All four, including the suspect, lived together in the residence — a condo — according to KNX 1070 Newsradio.

[Added at 3:50 p.m.]: The victims were identified in reports as daughter Tracie Ann Brooks and mother as Carol Susan Brooks.

A family member told the Daily Breeze that the suspect and Tracie were planning to get married.

Two co-workers of the mother said the suspect had “crazy eyes” and appeared at times to be on drugs.
