Over the centuries, the naked body has been a staple of any artistic endeavor, and gay artists particularly like to explore the subject matter. Maybe it has something to do with sexual liberation, or maybe it's about pleasing their audience, or maybe it's the fact that a lot of gay folks just have beautiful bodies. Whatever the case may be, Naked Creatures , curated by Ian MacKinnon, features solo and group performances of dance, music and video, where queer artists take it off and “rejoice” in the naked human body. After all, the promoters tell us, “underneath everything, we are all naked creatures.” Considering the wounds that are still being healed in this post-Prop. 8 world, a reflection on our similarities rather than our differences is probably a good idea.
