27-Year-Old Woman, Child Killed in Rollover Collision near Monterey Avenue

THOUSAND PALMS, CA (February 18, 2022) – A rollover crash on Varner Road left Myriam Perez Machado and a child dead Tuesday morning.

According to California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 9:14 a.m., on February 17. Dispatchers responded to the scene near Monterey Avenue.

Authorities say 27-year-old Machado, of Indio was driving eastbound on Varner Road when she lost control of her vehicle and rolled over into the dirt. Due to the extent of her condition, medics pronounced Machado dead at the scene.

Meanwhile the child, whose identity and relationship to her was undisclosed, later died at the hospital.

Following preliminary investigations, crews determined that the two had not been wearing any seatbelts at the time of the crash.
