Portishead

Dummy (Go! Beat/London)

Picking a favorite album is so hard! There’s so many great ones that I’ve loved through the years. Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black”, Fiona Apple’s “Tidal”, Massive Attack’s “Mezzanine”, Nirvana’s “In Utero”, The best of Sade, and I’m raised in Cali so Dr Dre’s 2001 too. But I’m gonna go with Portishead’s “Dummy” as my ultimate favorite.

Portishead Dummy

I think it actually just had its 25/26 release anniversary, but every time you listen to it, it’s like the 1st time. I discovered it in the 2000s and it’s the moodiest, sexiest vibiest downtempo/trio hop album of all time. Amazing melodies, samples, lyrics. Beth Gibbons’ vocals are intoxicating and haunting. It’s such a unique and visual album. Like a movie but in auditory/music form.. Divinely and timelessly dope.

Xhoana X’s “Crimson” is out now.
