Germfree Adolescents (EMI)

A favorite record that I return to every year or two is Germfree Adolescents by X-Ray Spex. Polly Styrene was an old soul and way ahead of her time. Teenage Polly was a Generation One belter who wrote of the future, narcissism, consumerism, feminism, science-non-fiction, rock & roll dysmorphic disorder and obsessive compulsive teenage dreams. In 1977 there was no internet but it’s clear the freewheeling Polly Styrene saw it coming. Perfection!

Redd Kross plays with the Melvins and Yoshi Kasai at 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 7 at Alex’s Bar; then at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8 at the Echo.
