You get to go out on Friday night, why not your dog? We don't mean for another walk around the block — that is so 2009 — but a Mutt Mingle. This Friday night at Pussy & Pooch, you can take your dog to a 3-hour social gathering to sample the free treats, or pony up for the big stuff: Bowser Beers (chicken or beef broth), whole cow Achilles tendons, or should your pet prefer, a host of raw food options. Bipeds will also be offered refreshments in the form of appetizers and cocktails.

According to the website, “Mutt Mingles are a great way for your dog to learn valuable social skills… and interact in a social setting — with food, drink and plenty of other distractions.”

Those distractions may include red-haired poodles sporting Virgin Mary tank tops, Scotties fresh from their blow-outs, and chihuahuas unwittingly playing dress-up.

The center of the Friday night action occurs at the walk-up Pawbar (above), where your dog can dine on stews and soups (the chicken and rice is low fat, should you care to share your eating disorder with your pet), organic Yöghund frozen yogurt in flavors like vanilla, blueberry and cheddar, chicken nuggets (raw chicken bites) and raw “burgers” with various sauces.

The iced “cookie” dog treats by the check-out counter were so beautifully decorated, we seriously contemplated buying one for ourselves. Actually, they probably are great, if Milk Bones are any indication, since, you know, we all tried one or two dog biscuits when we were kids. Didn't we?

Mutt Mingle at Pussy and Pooch: 564 South Main St., Downtown; (213) 438-0900. Friday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
