0 copyMustache Mondays was hands up and down our favorite dance club throughout its run at La Cita back in the middle 2000s. After becoming a regular, it became our mission to spread its message of style, acceptance and expression via our LA Weekly nightlife column Nightranger. We also developed a friendship with its creator Nacho Nava (aka Nacho Biz) in the process, and followed his career in nightlife and art throwing events throughout L.A. When Nava passed away in 2019, it was a loss on many levels — for the queer community, for nightlife and, we felt it on a personal level too. (Read our obituary here).

So it fills us with explicable joy to see that what he created is still being celebrated and acknowledged for changing the game in Downtown L.A. and the city as a whole. Starting today, KCET’s Artbound documentary series shines a light on this seminal BIPOC queer bash, which according to its promo, became a “creative incubator” for culture in L.A. We couldn’t agree more!

Join friends, fans and regulars at the premiere screening tonight at Precinct LA. Organized by filmmaker Abel Soto and DJ Josh Peace (who kept MM’s dance floor hot and sweaty during its run), we think gathering at the downtown venue is the perfect way to celebrate. You can also watch it at KCET.org357 S. Broadway St., Downtown. Wed., Nov. 17, 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m. 21+; free.
