Los Angeles indie band The Gooms release their new album Laugh on July 24, and they’ve just dropped a video for the song “I’m Judy Garland” (see below).

“On-screen, Judy Garland is known as a source of happiness and hope, while her off-screen life is painted more as a tragic picture,” the band said in a statement. “This song is not about Judy Garland, but rather the feeling of pushing through your own misadvenutres while still trying to be that light for someone else.”

The song, and indeed the album, showcase The Gooms’ gift for wrapping sweet, infectious melodies in surfy, garage-rock fuzz. They’ll be performing live on Friday, so see for yourself.
