The Swiss rock band Annie Taylor are named after Annie Edson Taylor, an American schoolteacher who was the first person to survive going over Niagara Falls in a barrel. Led by singer-guitarist Gini Jungi, the quartet have a driving, glittery sound that takes a plunge into punk, grunge and psychedelia. “Take a walk in the dark,” Jungi invites amid the fuzzy riffs of “Teach Me Rock ’n Roll.” Annie Taylor rock even harder on “Under Your Spell,” in which spindly surf guitar lines suddenly give way to big, expansive, wallowing grunge power as Jungi’s hazy vocals float dreamily over the storm. “A Thousand Times” is a relatively restrained, jangling indie-rock reverie before it too shifts into a grungy chorus.
