A husband and wife found shot to death in their home in Encino yesterday died in a murder-suicide, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Pedro Papias, 41, was arguing with his 35-year-old wife Rosa Valencia when he grabbed a gun and shot her several times in their bedroom. He then shot himself. According to media reports, the couple was having marital problems and planning to separate.

Papias was a sub contractor. Valencia worked in a dental office in North Hollywood.

Their three young children were at home at the time. The couple's 12-year-old son called 911. Neighbors found the other two children – a 10-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl – wandering outside their home asking for help.

The shooting occurred in the 4800 block of Haskell Avenue near La Maida Street at 12:36 p.m. on May 31.
