The man who was fatally shot in MacArthur Park on September 21 has been identified as 35-year-old Eduardo Araujo. According to police reports, Araujo and another man were sitting on a park bench chatting when they were approached by a Hispanic male suspect who shot them at close range.

Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Araujo, who was shot in the head and several times in the body, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, who was shot multiple times in the body, was transported to a nearby hospital. The shooting occurred near Alvarado and Sixth streets around 10:30 a.m.

KCAL9 reported that this was the first homicide in MacArthur Park in three years. For years, the park had been plagued by gang violence until the city attorney's office laid down anti-gang injunctions and police set up video surveillance cameras throughout the park.
