UPDATE: Oran Eugene Douglas, 37, was fatally shot at 5:30 p.m. August 9. The incident happened near Vermont Avenue at 919 West 68th Street.

According to police reports Officer Gabriel Holguin, with the LAPD's gang unit, was driving with his partner in the area, responding to a backup call regarding a man with a gun. Holguin got out of the patrol car to try and talk to Douglas. On seeing the approaching officer, Douglas ran, resulting in a foot pursuit. Douglas eventually stumbled as he drew a gun from his waistband, turning towards Holguin with his weapon. Holguin fired his gun leading to Douglas's death at the scene. A fully-loaded handgun was recovered after the shooting, police said. No officers were hurt in the incident.
