An animal-regulations officer witnessed the fatal attack and saw the culprit bash a glass bottle over Cantoral's head. The assailant, described as a Hispanic male in his 40s or 50s, was observed leaving the scene in a pickup truck. The 1:30 p.m. attack, which occurred on the corner of Lacy Street and Avenue 26, doesn't appear to be gang-related. Cantoral died of his injuries at a nearby hospital.
