According to police, 30-year-old Gerardo Cruz was standing out in front of his girlfriend's house with her brother drinking beer when three alleged gang members jumped out of their blue compact car and “shot up the place.” Cruz, who had got off work a few hours earlier and was about to help the brother work on a car, was fatally wounded. His girlfriend's children were inside their duplex when the shooting happened.

Police say the shooting was gang-related but that Cruz was not a gang member. The three unindentified shooters are still at large. The incident occurred in the 13000 block of Weidner Street at 5:26 p.m.

This latest shooting is the fourth homicide in June to occur within the LAPD's Foothill Division.

Anyone with information on the shooting should call Foothill Division detectives at (818) 834-3115.
