Redlands homicide detectives are investigating the strangling death of a 49-year-old woman after her estranged boyfriend drove to the Good Samaritan Hospital on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles — with her body in his car.

According to Redlands Police Department spokesman Carl Baker, Ho Chun Kang, 40, pulled up to the hospital about 2:45 p.m on June 8 with his dead ex-girlfriend Caroline Kim in his van. Hospital personnel quickly deduced that the school teacher had been dead for some time. Unknown to them, an hour earlier, police officers went to Kim's house in Redlands to check on her welfare after Kang's relatives got a call from him saying he had “done something bad.”

Homicide suspect: Ho Chun Kang

Police say that Kang had a history of domestic violence towards Kim and she had a restraining order against him. The former couple lived together in Redlands until February, when he was arrested for domestic violence involving Kim. He later moved in with his brother in Diamond Bar.

On the day of the murder, Kang failed to appear in San Bernardino County Superior Court on that domestic violence charge. Police believe that Kang met up with Kim the night before at a local church parking lot and attempted to convince her to drop the charges against him but “something went wrong.”

Police believe she was either killed in Redlands or taken against her will and killed later.

Police located Kim's car at a church parking lot in the 1200 block of Ford Street in Redlands.
