Over the band's storied 20-year career, Chicago post-rock giants Tortoise have covered a great deal of stylistic ground.

Jazz, electronic, Kraut, dub, and the avant-garde have been fair game, but only on the occasional remix have the efforts of those gifted players been paired with rap.

Even when Tortoise drummers John McEntire, John Herndon and Dan Bitney teamed up as “Bumps” to create an album of live breakbeats for Stones Throw Records in 2007, their work was decidedly emcee-free.

Or was it?

As it turns out, J Dilla associate and Detroit rapper Guilty Simspon, who just released the Madlib-produced OJ Simpson LP on Stones Throw, was called into the studio by the Bumps crew to rap over a single that was never released.
