California could be losing its edge in the entertainment industry. In the last 15 years, the Golden State's leading position in the film and TV industries has been slowly eroding, with jobs in the business going to states that subsidize production. According to a report by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., the county that's home to the entertainment capital of the world has lost more than 9,000 jobs in the entertainment industry since 2007. In a forum co-hosted by the Milken Institute and KPCC, A Hollywood Exit: What California Must Do to Remain Competitive in Entertainment – and Keep Jobs a panel of entertainment industry leaders will discuss the diminishing job base and how other states have sustained their own entertainment industries. The panel will include economist Kevin Klowden, director of the Milken Institute's California Center and co-author of the upcoming research report A Hollywood Exit, and will be moderated by Larry Mantle of KPCC's AirTalk program. Milken Institute, 1250 Fourth St., Santa Monica; Thurs., Feb 27, 7:30-8:30 p.m.; free, RSVP required. (310) 570-4600, milken?institute.org.
