Through Aug. 17, UCLA’s Billy Wilder Theater hosts a showcase of the work created by American directors, screenwriters and actors who moved to Europe after being blacklisted or voluntarily exiled. Co-curated by Rebecca Prime and highlighting those featured in her book, Hollywood Exiles in Europe: The Blacklist and Cold War Film Culture, the series continues with director Joseph Losey’s These Are the Damned (The Damned), about an American tourist who finds himself trapped in a secret military base where children are being experimented on, and screenwriter Donald Ogden Stewart’s Escapade, about a well-known pacifist whose search for world peace causes him to neglect his wife and sons, at 3 p.m. Escapade actor Peter Asher will be present.

The Velaslavasay Panorama screens The Murder of Hi Good, about infamous Native American hunter Hiram Good, at 8 p.m. Historian Richard Burrill will deliver a brief lecture on the Gold Rush era and California’s Native American history and culture. Get tickets at brownpapertickets.com/event/768009.

Sunday, Aug. 10

After the purchase of her home in Lordville, New York, director Rea Tajiri was struck by the question: “What does it mean to own land?” In her doc Lordville, Tajiri explores this question through a Native American genealogist and a Minisink woman who married a Lordville founder.
