The Purple Rose of Cairo is one of Woody Allen’s masterpieces—a perfectly wrought fantasy about a 1930s B-movie character (Jeff Daniels) who literally steps out of the silver screen and into the life of an unhappily married waitress. Stuart Wurtzel’s production design perfectly captures the look and feel of Depression-era NYC; Wurtzel will appear in discussion with John Iacovelli of the Art Directors Guild following the 35mm screening. The program is presented by the American Cinematheque and the Art Directors Guild Film Society and sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter.
