The Sound of Silence is an appropriately hushed and delicately wrought feature by Michael Tyburski, expanded from his award-winning short film Palimpsest, about a lonely “house tuner” (a hangdog Peter Sarsgaard) who recalibrates homes to ameliorate the depression and anxiety of the inhabitants. His hermetic existence is challenged when he begins to develop feelings for a particularly difficult client (Rashida Jones). The details of the man’s daily work are fascinating, and even when the narrative veers into conventional territory, the film is pleasurably attuned to the microdramas of romantic interaction.
