As a financially strapped postwar Hollywood moved many of its productions overseas, the resulting international films broadened the visual scope and financial horizons of the American film industry. Daniel Steinhart’s new book, Runaway Hollywood: Internationalizing Postwar Production and Location Shooting, examines this pivotal moment in film history and forms the basis for UCLA’s sprawling retrospective. The series kicks off with a doubleheader of films set in the Eternal City: Roman Holiday, the film that made Audrey Hepburn a star, and Three Coins in the Fountain, a ‘Scope drama featuring a hit Frank Sinatra tune. Steinhart will sign copies of his book before the screening.

UCLA’s Billy Wilder Theater, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Westwood; Fri., July 19, 7:30 p.m.; $10. (310) 206-8013, cinema.ucla.edu.
