The Warrior Queen of Jhansi tells the story of Rani of Jhansi, a sort of Indian Joan of Arc who led a fierce, ultimately unsuccessful rebellion against Britain’s East India Trading Company in 1857. Her effort nevertheless set in motion the demise of the powerful joint-stock company that had colonized and controlled large parts of the Indian subcontinent. This colorful epic, a British-Indian co-production, marks the directorial debut of Swati Bhise, the Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer.
