The Mount Wilson Towercam has stopped transmitting images, possibly the

result of fire-damaged cables connecting its nearby server to the Internet, according

to a Wednesday  night L.A. Times report.

Visitors to the Towercam's Web site are met with a generic “try again” screen. For days the camera, operated by UCLA's Physics and Astronomy Department, has

made Angelenos vicarious witnesses to the advance of the massive Station Fire that has raged in the Angeles National Forest since last Wednesday. That fire

still threatens the peak's cluster of communications towers and

the historic observatory complex, although it's believed the worst of

the threat is over.

As of this posting the Mount Wilson Observatory Web site is also down.
