The UC Berkeley Institite of Governmental Studies showed that 47% of registered voters would vote for a recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom, compared to 50% who would vote to retain him.

The narrow margin of percentages were among voters who were likely to partake in the special election, with the margins being wider among the overall group of polled registered voters. In order to distinguish voters who intend to vote in the recall, the poll looked at the the respondents’ past voting history and level of interest in the election.

With several still undecided, the overall percentage of respondents who said they would vote to recall Gov. Newsom stand at 38%, with 51% saying they are in favor of the current governor.

When asked who voters would choose to replace Newsom, Republican broadcaster Larry Elder led the way with 18% of voters choices, followed by John Cox (10%) who ran against Newsom in 2018, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer (10%) and Kevin Kiley (5%).
