3rd Annual Proper English Breakfast Weekend

For the third year in a row, the Atwater Village Bakery & Cafe will celebrate the opening of the English Premier League season with a traditional English breakfast: baked beans, eggs, roasted tomatoes, toast and housemade bangers (sausage) as well as house-made English back bacon. There also will be what the cafe calls a “Full Monty” set that includes all of the aforementioned plus house-made black pudding and fried toast.

Rib Fest

It's the return of Lucques' annual family-style barbecue rib feast, which started in 2000. Suzanne Goin will prepare a menu featuring St. Louis–style pork ribs, braised beef back ribs and spicy lamb spare ribs. For sides, there'll be coleslaw, long-cooked collard greens, corn-on-the-cob, baked beans, tomato and watermelon salad as well as grilled cornbread. Dessert will be a peach cobbler with strawberries and buttermilk ice cream. To accompany the feast: cowboy cocktails such as Longhorn lemonade. Guests who book a reservation between noon and 3 p.m. will receive one free cowboy cocktail.

Summertime Backyard BBQ

Freddy Smalls is throwing an all-you-can-eat barbecue party in its parking lot with drink specials and a DJ lineup playing funk, soul and old-school hip-hop. The menu will include beer-steamed Maryland blue crab, grilled tri-tip with Texas toast and chimichurri, roasted pork shoulder tacos and grilled corn on the cob with spiced butter.
