In the crowded field of food benefit events, Wally's Sixth Annual Central Coast Wine & Food Celebration on Sunday, August 2 from noon to 4:00 p.m. is always one that's worth saving your pennies for. Hopefully gentler summer temperatures will prevail so that the many pinots, syrahs, etc. being poured are as attractive as they deserve to be. But if not, there's that super limited production, prized Sea Smoke chardonnay to look forward to. Plus food from Cut, Tavern, A.O.C., the Mozzas, Street, comme Ça, Hitching Post, and Pasolivo, among others. Tickets cost $95 in advance or $125 at the door to raise funds for the Michael Bonaccorsi Scholarship Fund at U.C. Davis' School of Viticulture and Enology.

Wally's Wine & Spirits: 2107 Westwood Blvd., Westwood, (310) 475-0606.

Also in the category of worthy and tasty philanthropy is Project by Project's Plate by Plate tasting at California Science Center on Saturday, August 1 from 7-10:00 p.m., benefiting the Asian Pacific Islander Small Business Program. API SBP helps incubate

Asian and Pacific Islander small and micro businesses in Los Angeles. Participating restaurants include Mo-Chica, The Bazaar, Mendocino Farms, Scoops, Roy's, M Cafe, and more. Entrance is $150-200 for general admission or $275 for VIP access and reception that starts at 6:00. As is the case with Wally's Central Coast Celebration, set aside extra cash for a silent auction spree if you can swing the extra donation.
