Former TV talk-show host and sometime Hollywood actor Montel Williams trekked to the New York statehouse this week to let his voice be heard on an issue that's near and dear to his heart — marijuana.

Not just any marijuana — medical marijuana. New York is considering a bill that would be more strict than California's own such law: It would only allow pharmacies to distribute cannabis, and it would limit the kinds of ailments that would let patients qualify to receive the drug. Still …

… “New York got it right,” Williams said, according to the Albany Times Union.

Williams, who has multiple sclerosis, is a longtime medical marijuana user and backer.

The drug “changed my life — it allowed me to have my life back,” he said.
