Update: Statement from Go Ventures and refund info at the bottom of the post.

Groove Tickets announced on its website today that the Halloween rave Monster Massive has been canceled.

The party, which had Moby, Armin Van Buuren, Erick Morillo and other superstar DJs on its lineup, apparently had trouble finding a venue. As our sister publication OC Weekly reported, there was some question about whether it would happen at Oak Canyon Park in Irvine.

Today …

… Van Buuren, one of the world's top trance spinners, and Morillo, a onetime New Yorker who is one of the folks behind the Pacha club brand, announced on their own websites that they are pulling out of the party.

For years Monster Massive had been held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, but after the controversy surrounding 2010's Electric Daisy Carnival at the L.A. Coliseum next door — including the death of a 15-year-old attendee who had taken ecstasy — raves have been shut out of both sister venues, which are controlled by a public body called the Coliseum Commission.

At the same time. Monster Massive faced competition this year from Hard Haunted Mansion, which now seems to be the only game in town for your electronic dance music horror fest needs.

Bad times for Monster's promoter, Go Ventures: Electronic dance music is on fire these days, with massive radio play for the likes of DJ David Guetta and festivals like EDC (which moved to Vegas last summer) drawing record crowds (200,000-plus) that not even top rock, pop and rap acts see.

We have a call into San Fernando Valley-based Go Ventures for a response.

[Added]: It was shaping up to be a busy weekend with the other big rave promoter in town, Insomniac Events, which is behind Electric Daisy Carnival, holding its own Halloween massive Oct. 29, Escape From Wonderland, at the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino.

It recent years it appeared that the big three electronic festival promoters, Insomniac, Hard and Go Ventures, often tried not to go head-to-head on big weekends like this, but for some reason all three planned large parties for this Halloween weekend.

Insomniac and Go collaborated in the past on the annual New Year's Eve rave called Together As One at the L.A. Sports Arena.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, and with great disappointment, Go Ventures announces that this year's Monster Massive scheduled for October 29, 2011 has been cancelled.

We would like to thank all of our loyal supporters, affiliates and staff for their hard work, commitment and efforts in support of this much loved event. Go Ventures upholds the belief of Quality Music, Stellar Production and Lifetime Memories. Go Ventures would not put on an event that did not meet these high standards.

We want to assure our fans that Monster Massive will return in 2012 better than ever, with a First Class Line-up and State of the Art Production, consistent with what our fans expect from Go Ventures.
