Not long ago, bored and horny housewives had “Twilight” to fuel their kinky fantasies. Before that, moms looking to get their sexy literature on could pick up a copy of “Peyton Place,” a 1956 soap opera novel that follows the sordid goings-on of a quiet New Hampshire town.

But a new book that's gripping mothers by the loins makes those two look downright quaint.

'Fifty Shades of Grey'

'Fifty Shades of Grey'

“Fifty Shades of Grey,” the first book in the “Fifty Shades” trilogy, doesn't bother with foreplay between teenage virgins, or the pedestrian concerns of undersexed 40-somethings — the tome, penned by British author E.L. James, is straight up bondage erotica. According to the New York Post, it's become a big hit with the wealthy mothers of New York City, and has helped coin a new genre: “mommy porn.”

The book follows a fictional young billionaire, Christian Grey, as he seduces Anastasia Steele, a recent college graduate. Steele quickly discovers that Grey wants to make her his sex slave.

She submits.

Bondage ensues.

Upper East Side stroller-pushers have reportedly found out about James' fantasy-land mainly through word of mouth — “It's known as 'The Book,'” one such lascivious reader told The Post — and sales of “Fifty Shades of Grey” took off in January, so much so that it's already landed on the New York Times best-seller list.

The impact of “Fifty Shades of Grey” on women's libidos doesn't end with mommy's private time, though. It's apparently so hot that it's making female readers want to have sex — with the men they're married to.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Gasp!]

Indeed, another mom interviewed by The Post reported that, “The person who recommended it to me said, 'It will make you want to have sex with your husband.' And it did!”

It's a shocking trend, but it doesn't look like this unchecked tide of marital sex is going to stem any time soon. More than 6,000 people have rated the book on Good Reads, and one hopeful Amazon seller thinks someone will shell out $999.99 for a copy.

On the Upper East Side, I guess you just never know what could happen.
