The U.S. Bureau of Land Management suspended races on its turf scheduled by South El Monte promoter Mojave Desert Racing while authorities continued to investigate the cause of its deadly off-road accident in San Bernardino County last weekend, a spokesman for the bureau told KNX 1070 Newsradio.

The suspension would only last as long as the investigation if MDR is determined to be off-the-hook, he said. Saturday's accident in the Mojave near Lucerne Valley took the lives of eight spectators when a prerunner pickup launched off a rock pile and landed upside down in a crowd of spectators that was far too close to the track.
