A few weeks back, Eater reported that musician Moby had taken over a space on Rowena Avenue in Silver Lake that had long been dormant. The cool space-age blue building was for years a project in the works called Silver Take, which had tables and chairs in it and a cute counter, but it never opened to the public, remaining a ghost restaurant that looked ready to serve but sat empty. Rumors were that licensing issues held the project back. 

Today Moby and co. have released word that the restaurant will be called Little Pine, and the kitchen will be run by chef Anne Thornton, formerly of Waverly Inn and Hotel Griffou. The menu will be vegan and organic, and there will be a significant retail component. The restaurant will open at first for dinner only, but eventually will be open for breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch. 

This is the sleepier end of Silver Lake, with far fewer eateries than the Sunset Junction area. Just across the street next to Ivanhoe Elementary, upscale Blair's acts as the neighborhood's go-to high-end restaurant, and Broome Street General Store about a block away offers a leafy oasis, great coffee and really expensive hipster goods ($140 bow ties, $60 mortar and pestles and $10 bars of chocolate). Nicky D's recently closed just up the street, and there are rumors of another well-known Silver Lake vegetable-focused restaurateur taking over that space. Old-school Italian joint Michelangelo's putters along nearby. But there isn't really a solid casual neighborhood lunch and dinner spot, and for a very residential area with a ton of families this seems like a missing element. 

A peek at Little Pine's menu includes items such as lemon mint pea pâté with crostini and crudités, pan bagnat with crushed garbanzo beans, niçoise olive tapenade on a crunchy baguette, and mushroom leek pot pie with leeks and root vegetables in rich gravy. Little Pine is being designed by Tatum Kendrick of Studio Hus, and PR material says, “The restaurant space marries a laid-back California spirit with a modern riff on nature.”

A summer opening is projected.
